Gender Affirming Care
We provide quality, compassionate care from an informed-consent model for our transgender patients and people at various places on the spectrum of gender identity/expression.
Our Denver Central Health Center offers gender affirming hormone replacement therapy for our transgender and non-binary patients. Whether you’re already a patient or would like to become a new patient, call us at 1-800-230-PLAN to make your appointment. (Online scheduling is not currently available for hormone therapy.)
Hormone therapy appointments are generally available Wednesday-Friday, and on alternating Saturdays at Denver Central.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Hormone therapy may include feminizing medications or masculinizing medications, as well as care planning by a team of compassionate staff. Our goal is for you to feel welcome and comfortable in our health center, and to provide the highest quality of care.
We want to know your preferred name and pronoun. If we make a mistake, please let us know so we can make it right.
When you meet with a clinician, they will do the following:
-
Ask for your complete medical history, including physical, sexual, and surgical history in addition to your current health practices. We understand that it can be uncomfortable for some patients to answer these questions. We ask that you share as openly as possible to ensure you receive the best care.
-
Conduct a physical exam, including a blood pressure check, screening, and evaluation. This will depend on any present health risks, your sex assigned at birth, and anatomy.
-
Laboratory tests, including blood work to monitor possible side effects of hormones and STI/HIV testing.
-
Discuss your goals and expectations, as well as side effects and risks of hormone therapy.
-
Once the clinician has determined that you are medically ready to begin hormone therapy, they will gather your informed consent and begin to administer hormones.
Already on hormones? If you are already being seen by a medical provider for hormone treatment but wish to transfer your care to Planned Parenthood, you can do that. Give us a call at 1-800-230-PLAN to schedule your appointment.
