The last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, October 15, has been designated National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD).  Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains is proud to join NLAAD in this national call to action for Latinos to protect their health and the health of those they love by getting tested and learning about HIV.

Planned Parenthood health centers play a vital role in fighting HIV/AIDS through the year-round provision of HIV screening.  In 2010, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains health centers provided over 13,000 HIV tests. Planned Parenthood affiliates also work with other community-based organizations to ensure all people and families have access to information and education about the prevention of HIV.  As a trusted health care provider to many Latinos, Planned Parenthood understands the importance of culturally competent health care.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Latinos account for 17 percent of new HIV infections.  HIV/AIDS is the fifth largest cause of death for Latinos aged 35 to 44 in the United States, and NLAAD provides us with a unique opportunity to remind Latinos about the importance of accessing routine HIV screening and preventing HIV infections.

Latinos unite!  Let’s stay healthy!  Get tested for HIV!

¡Latinos unidos y saludables! ¡Hazte la prueba del VIH!
