DENVER - Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains is recognizing April as STD Awareness month, an annual observance to raise awareness and reinforce STD prevention and testing as part of a healthy lifestyle.
As many as one in two sexually active young people will contract an STD by age 25 and most won’t know it.  To address the staggering rates of infection in the United States, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains will again be partnering with MTV, the CDC, and the Kaiser Family Foundation in the third annual GYT: Get Yourself Tested Campaign.

GYT encourages Americans under age 25 to talk with their health care providers and partners about getting tested for STDs.  According to the CDC, this age group represents half of the estimated 19 million STDs that occur in the United States each year.  So why GYT?

Here are the TOP FIVE reasons:

  1. Know yourself, know your status and get the facts about STDs.
  2. You can't tell if someone has an STD just by looking at them.  What to do?  Use protection.  No excuses.
  3. IYSL (It’s Your Sex Life).  Time to take control and check in to stay healthy and STD free.
  4. Finding a testing center is easy, just click here.
  5. Celebrities, musicians, artists, and athletes GYT.  Check it out here.

Details will soon be unveiled regarding specific GYT campaign activities in Colorado.
