Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains Celebrates 100 Years of Care

DENVER, CO—Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM) celebrated its 100 year anniversary this weekend. Vicki Cowart, President and CEO of PPRM, Governor John Hickenlooper, and awardees Rhondda and Peter Grant were joined by over 250 community members at the ART Hotel in Denver.

“Over the last 100 years, Planned Parenthood helped invent the birth control pill that revolutionized society. We rallied to legalize and de-stigmatize abortion. We’ve brought complete sex education to millions of young people. In fact, for 100 years, we’ve been an integral partner in giving people control over their lives and empowering people to own their sexual wellbeing. I am so honored and proud to lead this life-changing organization. In our next century, we will continue our work to expand access to reproductive health care and we will keep changing lives and history,” said Vicki Cowart, President and CEO of PPRM.

“Congratulations on 100 years of service to Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains,” said Governor John Hickenlooper. “The organization continues to play an integral role in the health of all Coloradans, expanding access to healthcare, championing women’s rights and ensuring birth control is affordable and accessible.”

In 1916, ten women united around the shared belief that birth control should be legal and accessible. Their radical thinking launched a century-long movement to bring reproductive health care to individuals all across the Rocky Mountain Region. 100 years later, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains has grown to serve Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nevada. Every year, patients travel from across the West to PPRM’s 29 health centers to receive care that might otherwise be inaccessible or even illegal in their home states.

PPRM serves nearly 100,000 patients yearly.
