As an early provider of the Covid-19 vaccine, first reaching seniors and healthcare workers – including its own health center staff – PPPSGV serves as an important complement to mass-vaccination sites, reaching patients who typically have the hardest time accessing care and are more heavily impacted by Covid-19. Seen as a trusted provider among community members disenfranchised by the larger healthcare system, PPPSGV leverages well-established relationships with the community, shares medically accurate information, and helps patients navigate structural barriers like language and transportation.
Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley President and CEO Sheri Bonner stated:
“Our Covid-19 vaccine clinic is centered on providing access to people heavily impacted by the pandemic. We saw a need to provide equitable vaccine access to hard-to-reach communities, and knew it was our duty as a trusted health care provider to step in to help. We quickly established a community clinic vaccination model that stands as a necessary alternative to mass-vaccination sites. Our vaccine clinic gets our patients vaccinated by a medical provider they trust, in a quick and efficient manner, and in a health facility in their community. We’re committed to getting as many shots in arms as we can and doing our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19.”
Positive feedback from vaccine patients at the PPPSGV sites range from the convenience of its locations to the kindness of staff to the efficiency of the 30-45 minute visits. A recent patient shared:
“I got my vaccine at the Baldwin Park Clinic and they did a fantastic job creating a clinic experience that is safe, efficient, and supportive for patients! I've been supporting senior vaccine appointment sign-ups for over a month and have visited many vaccination clinics throughout LA County. The Planned Parenthood Baldwin Park health center stood out as an example every clinic should follow. Kind, caring, and health information was shared in a way that meets a wide range of community needs."
Individuals can make an appointment online on the PPPSGV vaccine clinics page at www.pppsgv.org.
