What are the symptoms of Mpox?

  • Fever & headache

  • Muscle aches & backache

  • Swollen lymph nodes

  • Exhaustion

  • Rash, bumps, or blisters

    • May develop often beginning on the face and spreads to other parts of the body, including the mouth, genitals (penis, testicles, vulva, or vagina), or anus.

    • Rashes may vary in severity between people and change in appearance through infection. Infections can last two to four weeks.

How is Mpox spread?
  • Touching Mpox lesions on a person’s skin
  • Touching contaminated objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, towels), and surfaces that have been in contact with someone with Mpox
  • Coming into contact with respiratory droplets or secretions from the eyes, nose and mouth from a person with Mpox
How do I avoid getting Mpox?

To reduce the risk of Mpox, persons should:

  • Consider getting the Mpox vaccine 
  • Talk with sexual partner(s) about any potential Mpox symptoms and be aware of any new or unexplained rash or lesion on either of your bodies, including the mouth, genitals (penis, testicles, vulva, or vagina), or anus.
  • Avoid oral, anal, and vaginal sex, or touching the genitals or anus of someone with Mpox
  • Avoid touching shared fabrics, shared surfaces, and objects (e.g. sex toys) used by someone with Mpox
