Experts Available to Discuss Historically Low Teen Birth Rates in San Diego County

Teen birth rates in California have reached a record low, but Hispanic and Black teen birth rates remain significantly higher than white teens, according to 2014 statistics released recently by the California Department of Public Health, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division.

Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest provides two critical tools that are proven to reduce unintended pregnancy rates: affordable, expert health care and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education. We are working hard to reduce the health care disparities that lead to the higher teen birth rates among Hispanic and Black teens. We are dedicated to providing care for people in medically underserved communities who may otherwise have limited opportunities to access high quality health care regardless of their race, income, geography, citizenship status or gender identity.

Every year, we provide reproductive health care to about 100,000 people at our 12 health centers throughout San Diego County, and our educators provide reproductive and sexual health education to thousands of people in classrooms, and in our communities.
