On our 100th Anniversary, Planned Parenthood welcomes the public to join us on October 16 for our third annual Reel Women’s Movie Marathon, taking place at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs. In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, proceeds from this day-long event will fund our breast health program, which provides breast health screenings for thousands of women in the Coachella Valley each year.

This year’s movie marathon will feature films about women from around the globe, highlighting the struggles women face and the obstacles they overcome.

“I am thrilled to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Planned Parenthood at this wonderful event,” said Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest President & CEO Darrah DiGiorgio Johnson. “We have been helping women live their healthiest lives for 100 years, and thanks to the people attending this event, and our millions of supporters across the country, we look forward to the next 100 years.”

Funds raised at this event will help women in the Coachella Valley get the breast health care they need. Last year, we provided breast health screenings for 2,300 women at our health centers in the region. This event also helps fund a breast health coordinator at Planned Parenthood who provides one-on-one guidance, assistance, and management of health care for women in the region to ensure the smooth and timely continuity of care from screening to diagnosis.

“The health care system can be challenging in the best of circumstances, and sometimes something as simple as scheduling an appointment can become intimidating when you don’t have health insurance,” said nurse practitioner Karin Schlosser, our breast health coordinator. “Part of how I serve our community is by helping them navigate the system, making sure they are able to get appointments, and answering questions whenever possible.”
