On March 31st, Transgender Day of Visibility, and every day of the year, Planned Parenthood stands with transgender people. We see you. We care about you. We’re here with you — no matter what.

Planned Parenthood knows firsthand that people of all gender identities deserve civil and human rights, including the right to high-quality, affordable health care and accurate, relevant education and information so they can live full, healthy lives.

In the face of continued oppression and violence in the U.S. and around the world, Planned Parenthood is proud to stand with transgender and nonbinary people, and we are committed to making our country a place where no one experiences discrimination or violence because of their gender identity or expression.

The progress we’ve seen on LGBTQ+ rights in this country is rooted in principles that also underlie reproductive rights: Politicians should not get to decide what you do with your body or what your family looks like; and rights should not depend on the state you live in.

Transgender people, like cisgender people, have a fundamental need for quality health care and sex education, and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. At Planned Parenthood, we know there is no one way to be transgender or nonbinary, and we celebrate the increasing visibility and understanding of people in all their diversity and courage.

The unfortunate reality is that, in addition to economic and geographic barriers, transgender people face additional, unique challenges when it comes to getting the care they need. Some health care environments can be unwelcoming to transgender and nonbinary patients — from the language used on forms and in waiting rooms, to insurance coverage, to the lack of understanding of transgender identities among staff.

As health care providers, educators, and advocates, Planned Parenthood is committed to serving all people with care and respect. We are proud to provide sexual and reproductive health care and education to transgender people in communities across the country. Planned Parenthood services include cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, birth control, and hormone therapy, as well as sex education inclusive of transgender people’s identities and experiences.

Currently, over 200 Planned Parenthood health centers in 33 states offer gender- affirming hormone therapy for transgender patients. We're proud to be a source of high-quality health care for transgender and nonbinary patients.
