The Coachella Valley community is expanding, and in response, our existing Rancho Mirage health center has been renovated to meet the region’s current and future demand for Planned Parenthood’s services. We’re so thrilled to be able to announce the project’s official completion and share this newly expanded space with the community!

Originally opened in 2001, the facility is one of our busiest health centers, and the formerly 3,312-square-foot space was operating at full capacity. There have been 12,627 visits at the site so far this year, and it serves as our flagship center in the region.

Construction to double the size of the center (up to 6,732 square feet) began in February, and was halted shortly after due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The renovation officially resumed in early May.

“It was frustrating when we had to make the tough decision to put a hold on the project,” said Lori Keim, Vice President of Business Development. “But knowing how committed we were to the Coachella Valley community, I was confident that as soon as it was safe for us to resume — with the resources and staff safety measures in place — we’d complete the expansion.”

This improved space has added seven patient care rooms (totaling 13), a larger patient waiting room, two new state-of-the-art labs, and an open, central team-collaboration area. Additionally, there is an expanded breakroom for health center staff, increased storage, and five restrooms — significantly upgrading the existing facility.

“Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest’s commitment to resume construction expanding our health center gives me renewed strength and hope in such challenging and uncertain times,” said Larry, the Center Manager.

No local organization does more than Planned Parenthood to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, promote women’s health, or enable people to plan their own reproductive lives. We offer high-quality, affordable, and nonjudgmental care to those who need it, no matter what.
