You’ve heard about our sexual and reproductive health care…but did you know that Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest also has a Complex Gynecology Program?
“Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest practices evidence-based, expert medical care and surgery in addition to our expertise in sexual and reproductive health care,” said Dr. Kyle Bukowski, associate medical director at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest.

A patient can use most insurance plans at Planned Parenthood, but if you are uninsured or need to pay cash, our care is still affordable. Lean more about payment options here.
“A lot of people are under-insured, or don’t have insurance at all. They may not have access to a high quality gynecology provider who accepts their insurance. Especially with FamilyPACT and Medi-Cal — there aren’t necessarily a lot of choices. Planned Parenthood is giving patients excellent options.” Dr. Bukowski said.
“When a patient is referred to the Complex Gynecology Program, they are quoted on the possible cost of their visit and are offered financial assistance whenever possible,” said Disha, a clinician at Planned Parenthood of the Southwest.
One patient, Eboney, came to Planned Parenthood after seeing several other doctors. She felt like she wasn’t being listened to or properly diagnosed.
“Every other doctor I went to just gave me birth control pills to treat my heavy bleeding, debilitating cramps, vomiting, nausea, and host of other problems I dealt with every month during my period, instead of finding the source.”
Planned Parenthood diagnosed the problem and took steps with Eboney to solve it.
“Planned Parenthood really took the time to listen to me, and not only found the source of the problem (which were 14 fibroids that weren't going to be solved with birth control pills), but took steps to fix it by scheduling a surgery to have them removed.”
Eboney was on Medi-Cal and was worried about the surgery being covered.
“Not only were the surgery and pre/post-op appointments completely covered, but I was also provided with a caring, supportive staff the whole way through, and a very knowledgeable surgeon, which made it much easier,” Eboney said. “It was a scary process, especially since I'd never had surgery before, but the staff really helped me overcome my fears.”
Eboney wants to get the word out that Planned Parenthood is an excellent, trusted choice for advanced gynecological care.
“A year later, I'm pain-free, and hoping that every person out there with similar problems to mine knows about and is able to access the care that Planned Parenthood provides!”
Another patient, Zhyandia Joi, had a hysterectomy through Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest.
“I have always been grateful for the services Planned Parenthood provides in the face of ignorance and discrimination,” Zhyandia Joi said.
“Several doctors/nurses/assistants at other non-Planned Parenthood offices tried to talk me into doing other procedures without listening to my symptoms, experiences, or concerns. Those visits left me feeling a bit lost and hopeless. I went to Planned Parenthood because it was consistently the only health center that treated me with respect as a sexually-active single woman with no children.”
Her experience with Planned Parenthood’s staff left an indelible impression.
“The staff made me feel less alone. They made me feel respected and like a person. They never made me feel like I was making a bad decision or that I should have to continue suffering because I couldn't afford healthcare. Each person seemed dedicated to getting me closer to a satisfactory outcome for my life.”
“I could not imagine having gone another route,” Zhyandia Joi said.
“We’re able to provide very specialized care,” said Sierra, health center manager. “The doctors get face to face with the patients, give them time and attention, and really get down to how they can make a difference in their patients’ lives.”
