When was the last time you talked about sex? And we don’t mean the last time you made a “that’s what she said” joke or watched How to Get Away With Murder with friends. When was the last time you had an honest conversation about sex that got into the details — with a friend, a parent, a partner, or a doctor?

April is STD Awareness and Get Yourself Tested (GYT) Month—the perfect time to not only talk about sex, but safer sex. These shocking stats may just inspire you to start a safer sex conversation or better yet, Get Yourself Tested.

1 in 2 sexually active people (that’s half) will get an STD.

Undiagnosed STDs cause 24,000 women to become infertile each year.

Young people account for the largest percentage of new HIV infections in the U.S. each year.

STDs often show no symptoms; you can’t tell by looking at someone if they have an STD. the only way to know is to get tested.

STD tests are quick, easy, and painless.

Almost all STDs are treatable and many are curable.

Many health centers offer free or low-cost tests and treatment.

Planned Parenthood is here to help you stay safe and healthy. We offer STD testing, treatment, and sex education and information to help you take charge of your sexual health. Visit Planned.org or call 888.743.PLAN to make an appointment or to find out more.
