This month serves as an opportunity to encourage parents and caregivers to have regular, open, and honest conversations with their kids about things such as identity, bodies, relationships, and sex. While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect us all, young people haven’t stopped growing up. They still have questions and need support. Parents and caregivers should know they don’t need to be perfect, and they don’t have to do it alone.

There’s no one perfect way to talk about sex and relationships. The important thing is to start —and continue to have— conversations. Rather than “the talk,” parents and caregivers should consider communicating regularly with their kids in multiple short  conversations that reflect their child’s age and development.

Resources for Parents

We know that parents are the primary educators of their children, and that they often need help talking to their children about sex. PPOSBC offers resources and workshops to help those conversations.
