On March 24, 2021, PPOSBC Associate Medical Director, Dr. Shannon Connolly, spoke to legislators and their staffers in support of AB-32, a bill uplifted by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry. This bill ensures the preservation of California’s expanded telehealth authorizations, which were initially implemented due to COVID-19. Currently, the bill allows for increased access to remote Medi-Cal care through video and telephone visits.

Participating healthcare providers and advocates offered background, patient stories, and information on how telehealth has positively affected their patients. As stated by Dr. Connolly, “AB-32 solves more than the administrative problem. It literally ensures that we can maintain the last lifeline some people have to health care at a time when it is critically needed. This is a health equity and social justice issue.”

The briefing was hosted by Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) and co-hosted by California Health+ Advocates and Essential Access Health for the purpose of encouraging support for AB-32, which currently awaits a committee hearing in Assembly Health and CHBRP analysis.
