Annual Exams at Planned Parenthood

Let's face it — no one looks forward to their annual exam (also called a "well person check-up.") But it is a vital piece of taking care of your sexual and reproductive health care. Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) has been providing annual exams for 53 years, and we're here to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Book your appointment online or call 1-866-476-1321, Monday-Friday, to book.

Who needs an annual exam?

It is recommended that women begin having annual exams in their teenage years, and every year after. The services you receive at this visit vary depending on your age and medical history.

Book your annual exam now.  Or call 1-866-476-1321, Monday-Friday, to book.

What happens during an annual exam?

The services you receive at your annual exam vary depending on your history and age:

  • A physical exam to check your blood pressure, height, weight and other vitals.
  • A conversation about birth control and STD testing. We can answer any questions you have, prescribe birth control, or provide STD testing.
  • A breast examination
  • pelvic exam and Pap test
  • We may also recommend other services based on your age and your medical history.

Have breasts and/or a vagina but don't identify as a woman? It's still a good idea to have these kinds of check-ups.

Book now. Or call 1-866-476-1321, Monday-Friday, to book.

I thought I only needed an annual exam every three years now?

You may be thinking of a Pap test, which is an important part of an annual exam, but is not the entire exam. Pap tests looks for precancerous cells. It's recommended you get one of these tests every 3 years if you are 21-29 years old and have no symptoms, or every 5 years if you are 30-65 and have no symptoms. If you have had symptoms, your doctor may suggest a different frequency of testing or additional testing.

An annual exam may include a Pap test depending on you and your age, but it may also include a pelvic exam, breast exam, STD testing, blood pressure check, taking your height and weight, a conversation about birth control, and anything else related to your sexual health.

When it comes annual exams, it is recommended all women receive one each year.
