Anderson City Council to Pass Proclamation on the Importance of Prevention

May 4, 2009        REDDING, CA –Tomorrow evening, the Anderson City Council will pass a resolution affirming that “we must work together to fix the teen pregnancy health care crisis and reduce unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections among teenagers.”

A new report published earlier this year by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) indicates that the teen birthrate is on the rise for the second straight year, ending a 14 year decline in teen pregnancy statistics.

Planned Parenthood: Shasta-Diablo is proud to be a reliable source of sex education in Shasta County, providing families with the tools they need to communicate about making health decisions. Staff provide informational teen pregnancy prevention presentations to over 3,000 youth each year. Planned Parenthood: Shasta-Diablo also hosts a Peer Education Group where local youth leaders encourage fellow teens to make healthy decisions. Resources and information regarding health communication and decision making are available at the Redding Health Center for families, parents and youth.

Mary St. John, Planned Parenthood: Shasta-Diablo’s Regional Director for Community Services and Education says “Planned Parenthood: Shasta-Diablo is proud to work in Shasta County with the support of the Anderson City Council to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections among teenagers.”
