Planned Parenthood Northern California’s vision for our next century is to be there, no matter what.

It takes a leadership gift from a dedicated supporter to bring the vision to life. In Planned Parenthood’s 100-year anniversary on October 16, 2016, we entered the beginning phase of an ambitious, five-year “Second Century” campaign at Planned Parenthood Northern California.

The Hellman Foundation was our first supporter.

From the beginning, we reached out to trusted individuals and philanthropic institutions with a deep understanding of the community needs, and how Planned Parenthood Northern California will address them. They helped us refine and iterate our ideas, and connect with new partners—transforming our
work. In the face of the most ardent attacks this organization has ever seen, family foundations in Northern California distinguished themselves as champions of our mission.

The two million dollar leadership gift from The Hellman Foundation has been key to our initial success. This lead gift allowed us to secure an additional three million dollars in cash for the first year of our Second Century campaign, with an additional two million dollars in pledges. Thanks to this family foundation’s bold action as a principal investor in our campaign, other philanthropists are willing to do the same. Together and through our work—they will change hundreds of thousands of lives for years to come.

A crucial component of our campaign is to secure a true home for Planned Parenthood Northern California-a new location in San Francisco that we own in the heart of the city.

While our presence in San Francisco dates back to 1929, this transformational expansion represents the cornerstone of our plan for long-term sustainability that will assure that we can meet the growing need of medically-underserved patients in this city and more than double the size of our health center.  

The Flagship will accommodate our medical services, education, training, advocacy, and research areas, as well as an executive office, with room to grow in the years to come. Our health center will include a safe, dignified private entrance to protect our patients and staff from intimidation and harassment. At our current Valencia Street location, aggressive protest activity is a regular occurrence.

Planned Parenthood Northern California will open our doors to partners and supporters at the new Flagship location with meeting spaces for hosted events. We expect these new connections to increase our reach and impact, and to strengthen us. The Second Century Campaign will also fuel the launch of exciting new efforts in research, education, and technology, and strengthen our viability for the coming decades with a strong legacy giving program.
