Case Managers at Planned Parenthood Northern California help adults and pregnant or parenting youth. We assess their needs in order to coordinates services for them, and support them as they develop life skills to become more self-sufficient. Support services range from: help to complete their education, access to health care, classes on pregnancy, childbirth and parenting, support to identify and report abuse, and other resources for developing life skills.
We offer the following programs:
Adolescent Family Life Program (AFLP) / Positive Youth Development (PYD) (Napa and Solano Counties)
Positive Youth Development programs (PYD) are an effective response to negative health outcomes for adolescents. PYD programs help youth to build personal and professional skills, improve their health behaviors, and better connect to their communities and environment.
Cal-Learn Program (Napa and Solano Counties)
The Cal-Learn Program is a required program for all pregnant/parenting teens who are receiving California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs). Pregnant or parenting teens under the age of 19 who have not graduated from high school or its equivalent, and are receiving cash aid, are required to participate in this program.
The Cal-Learn program helps pregnant and parenting youth to attend and graduate from high school or its equivalent. This ambitious effort consists of three coordinated services designed to help teens become self-sufficient adults and responsible parents:
- Intensive case management services assist teen parents to obtain education, health and social services;
- Payments for necessary child care, transportation and educational expenses enable pregnant/parenting teens to attend school; and
- Bonuses and sanctions encourage school attendance and good grades.
Healthy Families America (Solano County)
The mission of Health Families America is to promote child well-being and prevent the abuse and neglect of children through home visiting services. The home visits will help cultivate and strengthen nurturing parent-child relationships that will promote healthy childhood growth and development.
