Our current Promotores program offers a series of workshops and outreach events for Latino parents, families, and high school students. Last year, our program directly impacted the lives of over one thousand residents in Contra Costa County.

An important component of the program is parent-child workshops, which build parents’ communication skills in discussing sexual health with their families and communities. Promotores also conduct outreach on high school campuses, and at community fairs and special events. Long-term goals include reducing STD and pregnancy rates among adolescents, delaying the onset of sexual activity, and connecting residents to local and accessible health services, including our Concord Health Center. In recent years, Promotores have also begun to deliver education about breast cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and support, and to encourage breast exams at our health center or other locations.
