Planned Parenthood of New York City Will Begin Offering Transgender Hormone Therapy
NEW YORK, NY – Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) will begin offering transgender hormone therapy on December 1st at its Boro Hall health center in Brooklyn. Appointments are being scheduled now.
"Everyone deserves access to high-quality health care. Providing hormone therapy will help us better meet the needs of the transgender patients we're already serving, as well as provide a much-needed service for other transgender individuals throughout New York City and beyond,” says Joan Malin, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City.
Gender-affirming hormone therapy is available for individuals whose gender identity does not match their sex assigned at birth. Hormone therapy is covered by Medicaid and most insurance programs. For anyone who is uninsured or under-insured, PPNYC's financial counselors can help find a payment option that will work for them. Appointments can be scheduled at 212-965-7000.
“Transgender and nonconforming individuals often face barriers to accessing the services they need, including discrimination from providers and lack of education about their health needs,” Malin continued. "Offering hormone therapy in an inclusive, welcoming environment is an important part of meeting the needs of trans and gender nonconforming communities in New York."
