NEW YORK - Starting this month, Planned Parenthood of New York City now provides medication abortion at the Staten Island health center. With this addition, PPNYC now provides abortion services all five health centers, in every borough of New York City.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer abortion services on Staten Island,” said Laura McQuade, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood of New York City. “There are very few health care providers on Staten Island that provide abortion. People end up having to travel to another borough to get the health care they need, which can add delays and increase their costs. Now, Staten Islanders can access medication abortion right here in their own community, if and when they need it. As we face an onslaught of attacks on our sexual and reproductive health and rights from Washington, it’s more important than ever that we expand access while we continue to fight for our sexual and reproductive freedom.”

Medication abortion, also called the abortion pill, is a safe and effective way to end an early pregnancy. It is offered up to 10 weeks after the start of one’s last menstrual period. Learn more about medication abortion here.

Planned Parenthood of New York City’s Staten Island health center offers the full range of sexual and reproductive health services including annual exams, birth control, STD testing and treatment, HIV prevention (PrEP and PEP), testing and counseling, and breast and cervical cancer screenings. Services are available to all people who walk through PPNYC’s doors regardless of income, immigration status or age. PPNYC serves all genders. The Staten Island Health Center is located at 23 Hyatt Street.

“While politicians in Washington are doing everything they can to roll back women’s health care and right to abortion, New York City continues the fight to protect those rights,” said First Lady Chirlane McCray. “Planned Parenthood’s efforts to ensure safe, legal abortion is available in all five of our boroughs is an important win for reproductive health and family planning in New York City.”

"With this new addition to their Staten Island clinic, PPNYC now offers abortion services at all five of their health centers,” said NYC Public Advocate Letitia James. “I commend PPNYC for upholding their commitment to help New Yorkers take control of their reproductive health and bodies. Without their tireless work and efforts, the health and rights of so many New Yorkers would be placed in danger.”

“As Washington continues to pull the nation backwards by chipping away at abortion access, Planned Parenthood of New York City has been on the frontline fighting to support New Yorkers and their reproductive health,” said NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer. “Everyone should have the right to determine their own future, and by expanding abortion services to all five boroughs, New Yorkers will be able to do just that. Thank you to PPNYC for working tirelessly to ensure that all people in our city, regardless of where they live, have access to the fundamental health care they deserve.”

"Planned Parenthood provides vital services to New Yorkers across the city,” said New York State Senator Diane Savino. “This new addition to the Staten Island Center means Staten Islanders will no longer need to travel to another borough for their reproductive health needs. I congratulate them on their expansion and look forward to their continued work here in Staten Island."
