NEW YORK—Laura McQuade will become President and Chief Executive Officer of Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC), effective September 2017, Katie Danziger, Chair of PPNYC’s Board of Directors announced today.

Currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Planned Parenthood Great Plains based in Overland Park, Kansas, McQuade oversees health care services, education and training in 12 health centers in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, and is a leading advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights in those four states.

She previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Center for Reproductive Rights, a New York City-based global human rights organization that works to advance reproductive freedom as a fundamental human right.

“Laura is a gifted executive who has devoted her career to advancing reproductive health and rights, providing quality health care to a broad spectrum of people in the communities in which she has worked,” said Danziger. “We look forward to working with her to continue to build our organization, to partner with other organizations whose goals parallel ours, and to maintain and expand top-quality sexual and reproductive health services, education and training programs and advocacy for our New York City communities.”

“I am excited by this opportunity to lead an organization that both provides the full range of sexual and reproductive health services and is a leading advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights for all New Yorkers,” said McQuade. “Planned Parenthood of New York City has an extraordinary reputation not only for the excellent health care and education it provides, but as a fierce advocate for the communities it serves. I am very proud to have been chosen to lead PPNYC.”

McQuade succeeds Joan Malin, who notified the PPNYC Board of Directors last October of her intention to step down this summer. Malin has transformed the organization over her 17-year tenure.

“Our organization is deeply indebted to Joan for her dedication and inspired leadership,” Danziger said. “Her passion for social justice has led to tremendous growth and ingenuity in how and where PPNYC is able to deliver our high-quality health care services and sexuality education. PPNYC is grounded in the idea that all people deserve access to the information and care they need to live healthy lives and achieve their dreams. Joan has carried the torch and brought our work to new levels. We wish her the best.”
