Hempstead, NY—On Wednesday, November 14, Planned Parenthood of Nassau County (PPNC) held its annual luncheon honoring Carol Markman, longtime supporter and board member, and featuring keynote speaker Cecile Richards.

Ms. Markman, a CPA at Mayer Meinberg LLP, was given the Margaret Sanger Award in recognition of her dedication and commitment to Planned Parenthood and women’s health and rights. As PPNC’s board treasurer, her financial acumen, long-term vision and sage advice helped maintain the agency’s financial integrity during the recession, ensuring that PPNC’s doors remained open to anyone in need of affordable preventive reproductive health care and information.

“Carol is a committed and skilled professional whose leadership helped PPNC weather many storms and still remain strong,” said PPNC’s Board Chair, Miranda Meyer. “Her passion for our mission and for the people we serve is evident in all that she does, and she is well-deserving of this award.”

The luncheon also featured a keynote speech by President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Cecile Richards. Ms. Richards discussed the recent political battles over women’s health, applauding both supporters in the room and advocates across the country for standing up and speaking out in support of access to reproductive health care and comprehensive sexuality education.

The luncheon was held at The Carltun in Eisenhower Park. Proceeds from the event help ensure that 40,000 people annually receive high quality, affordable reproductive health care services and sexuality education programs.
