Hempstead, NY – Last week, House Speaker Paul Ryan revealed that he's fast-tracking legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act and "defund" Planned Parenthood. If Ryan, Vice President-elect Mike Pence and the anti-women’s health ideologues in charge of Congress get their way, the consequences would be devastating: nearly early 30 million people will lose their health insurance, and 2.5 million Planned Parenthood patients a year will no longer have access to the sexual and reproductive health care they rely on.

This Sunday, across the country, people will be standing up and fighting back at over 34 rallies opposing the repeal of the ACA and the defunding of Planned Parenthood. In Nassau County, Planned Parenthood of Nassau County will be joining the NY rally with congress members Kathleen Rice and Tom Suozzi as well as local advocates to make the message loud and clear. The rally – entitled, Our First Stand - will take place Sunday, January 15 at 12:30 PM at the Yes We Can Center in Westbury and is open to all.

“For many women – across the country and right here in Nassau County - not being able to get care at a Planned Parenthood health center means that they won’t receive care at all. It’s time to stop these devastating political attacks and Planned Parenthood will leave no stone unturned to fight back for our patients,” said PPNC President & CEO JoAnn Smith.

“Sunday’s rally is one of many events and opportunities during this month for people to stand with Planned Parenthood. We hope people will join us, use their voices and stand up for the health care and rights of millions of Americans.”
