PrEP: A new daily pill that can prevent HIV.

Now offering PrEP at our Hempstead health center.
PrEP can reduce the risk of getting HIV during sex
by more than 90 percent!

What is PrEP?

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis and is a way to help prevent HIV by taking a pill every day! And, when combined with other preventative methods, PrEP works even better!

To learn more, click here, or make an appointment at Planned Parenthood of Nassau County to talk to a health care provider to determine if PrEP is right for you.

How Does It Work?

The PrEP treatment plan involves a daily pill called Truvada that can protect you against HIV as long as you take it every day. Truvada contains two antiretroviral medicines that interfere with HIV’s ability to grow and take hold in your body if you are exposed to the virus.

When taken every day, PrEP can provide a high level of protection against HIV, and is even more effective when it is combined with condoms and other prevention options. It’s also important to note that by always using additional protection (condom use), you will be protecting yourself from other sexually transmitted infections.

How Can I Start PrEP?

Make an appointment at Planned Parenthood of Nassau County to talk to a health care provider and determine if PrEP is right for you.

If you and your health care provider decide that PrEP is a good option for you, you can get a prescription through Planned Parenthood.
