Do stick to the recommended word counts. Letters should generally not be longer than about 150-200 words.

Do use personal details or stories if possible.

Do contact Planned Parenthood for help if you need it at [email protected]. We've got fact sheets, statistics and lots of people happy to assist you or proofread.

Do call the paper after you send it. Continue calling until the Editor confirms they received it.

Do remember that many letters won't be published. Be persistent and don't get discouraged.

Do cut the letter out if published, and send a copy to your local legislators. They should know what their constituents are thinking!
