Experts in Women’s Health

Planned Parenthood leads the country with the most up-to-date medical standards and guidelines for women’s health care. We are dedicated to the field of women’s medicine and are on the leading edge of providing high quality care for women. We operate 19 clinics in our three-state region, including online health services.

PPMNS has more than 40 APNs/PAs and 23 Board-Certified physicians with a collective tenure of 254 years at PPMNS. PPMNS providers are trained in a unique, industry-leading method of contraception counseling, designed to increase the effectiveness of contraception through increased Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) utilization and adherence. We also train at least 15 residents from the University of Minnesota each year (9 OB/GYN and 6 family medicine) in reproductive and sexual health care, as well as APNs from the University of Minnesota (10 were trained in 2015.)

Leaders in Health Care Delivery

As a health care CEO, Ms. Stoesz has prioritized developing ground-breaking strategies to make sure women of all incomes have access to the reproductive and contraceptive care they need. Patients can pick up their birth control at their visit and receive refills via mail from our centralized refill center. Most clinics offer same and next-day availability and many offer evening and weekend hours. Patients can walk-in for emergency contraception and other services and we offer online video visits for contraception, STD screening, emergency contraception, UTI treatment and LARC counseling. Our online health services accept commercial insurance, self-pay, and Medicaid (MN only.) Online Appointment Scheduling allows our patients to make appointments in real-time for most services. Our patient portal allows patients to access lab results, medical records, bill pay, and refills online.

Business Innovators

Sarah Stoesz co-founded a company called BRIDGE.BRIDGE serves PPMNS and other Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide. BRIDGE meets the IT and data management needs of affiliates by providing expertise in data management and data sharing though electronic practice management (EPM) and electronic health records (EHR) management.  Additionally, BRIDGE brings expertise in IT security including HIPAA security, healthcare revenue management, and IT infrastructure and support.

Stoesz was a co-founder of Afaxys, Inc. in 2006. Afazys, Inc. serves the reproductive health needs of millions of women dependent on public health providers for their healthcare.  Afaxys manages the contraceptive and supply needs of safety-net family planning providers, ensuring affordable, reliable access to the products needed for patient care. Afaxys operates a Group Purchasing Organization and pharmaceutical division and has an expanding manufactured and sourced portfolio of FDA-approved pharmaceuticals, available exclusively to the public health sector.

PPMNS co-leads Laboratory Services Cooperative, an affiliate member organization that provides laboratory testing and resulting services for Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide.  Competitively priced and focused on quick results, LSC has improved patient care and is helping to bend the cost curve for affiliates and patients.

PPMNS is co-owner of Affiliate Risk Management Services which provides risk management through three synergistic programs:  a National Insurance Program, a Patient Quality and Safety program, and the Center of Affiliate Learning.  Together these three programs provide an integrated approach to risk management.

Protecting Access to the Care Minnesotans Need

The combination of health care provider and health care advocate has made Planned Parenthood a cornerstone for women’s health in our country – and PPMNS is no different.  In addition to her commitment to improving patient access and care through innovative business strategies, Ms. Stoesz is a seasoned political advocate who successfully champions laws and policies that protect and promote women’s health throughout our region. She has led PPMNS to several political victories including defeating ballot initiatives to ban abortion and restrict access to basic care like contraception in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Excellence in Education and Outreach

Ms. Stoesz is also deeply committed to educating young people and adults about reproductive and sexual health in order to reduce the numbers of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) throughout the region.  In addition to the 64,000 patients served each year by Planned Parenthood expert reproductive health clinicians, PPMNS’ Education and Outreach team educates more than 41,000 Minnesotans and North Dakotans through our culturally specific and comprehensive education programs each year.

PPMNS’ reach in our community continues to garner results.  Rates of both teen pregnancies and unintended pregnancies across the region have reached historic lows, thanks in part to advances in sex education, birth control, and health care access. Research has even shown that teen girls with a Planned Parenthood clinic in their community are less likely to drop out of high school.
