IUD and Implant Experts

Planned Parenthood providers are nationally recognized experts in sexual and reproductive health care. We're at the leading edge of providing the safest, most effective birth control options for each person. As specialists, our providers have more experience providing IUDs and implants than most.

In-network for most insurance plans.

Many of our services, like birth control and annual exams, are available without co-pay or deductible. No insurance? High deductible? You may qualify for low- to no-cost services.

What's an IUD?

The IUD (intrauterine device, also known as intrauterine contraception, or the IUC) is a small, "T-shaped" device inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy.

What's an Implant?

The birth control implant is a matchstick-sized rod that is inserted in the arm to prevent pregnancy.

Why choose an IUD or implant?

They're safe, and some of the most effective birth control methods available. Some IUDs last up to 12 years!

The IUD and the implant are good options if you want a method that you don't have to remember to take each day. If you're ready to stop using the IUD or implant, our providers can remove it at any time.

Are IUDs and implants expensive?

Because they're long lasting, IUDs and implants are very cost effective.  You may be able to get an IUD or implant at Planned Parenthood with no co-pay. If you’re uninsured, we have programs that could help reduce the cost.

Do IUDs or implants prevent STDs?

Nope. Neither protects against STDs. Luckily, using condoms or female condoms every time you have sex does lower your chances of getting or spreading STDs. So using condoms with your implant or IUD is the best way to prevent infections.
