Sex Safety Training for Health Care Providers

Increasing provider confidence and comfort when talking with patients who engage in all types of sexual activities is essential for providing high quality sexual and reproductive health. To create an inclusive, shame free environment where patients feel it’s okay to talk about all types of consensual sex (including sex toys and tools) providers must remain up-to-date on current trends. Using inclusive, patient centered language when talking with patients about their sexual history will increase patient to provider trust as well as improve sexual health outcomes. This session will help participants clarify their own values as it relates to a variety of sexual activities not normally discussed, including the usage of sex toys and tools. Participants will receive concrete tools and resources that can be used when discussing these topics with their patients. Participants will also practice addressing scenarios for patients who have questions/concerns about these topics.

Objectives
1. Clarify their own values as they relate to all types of consensual sex; including activities, and the usage of sex toys and tools
2. Describe the importance of using inclusive, patient centered language when talking with their patients
3. Identify important information about current trends in sexual activities including common misconceptions, and how patients can safely engage in sexual activities outside of the mainstream, including the usage of sex toys and tools
4. Practice using inclusive, patient centered language to talk with patients about their sexual health
