What kind of vehicles can I donate?

You can donate cars, trucks, vans, RVs, motorcycles, boats, ATVs, and more. If it’s a vehicle you can donate it.

What paperwork do I need for my donation?

Most of the time all you need is a signed title, but if you have any questions or concerns please contact our donor service department at 800-269-6814.

Do I get a tax deduction for my donation?

Absolutely, if you itemize your tax return you may deduct the sale value of your donated vehicle or the fair market value up to $500, whichever is greater. To get your deduction you do have to file an itemized return. You can find more information on charitable vehicle deduction tax deductions at http://www.irs.gov/charities

What percent of the proceeds does the charity receive?

A lot of different costs, like towing, auction, advertising fees and expenses, can affect the proceeds generated from a vehicle donation. Depending on the sale value of the vehicle, PPMHV receives at least 50 percent of the proceeds.

How does PPMHV benefit from vehicle donations?

All vehicles we accept for donation are sold at auction and the proceeds benefit PPMHV.

My car doesn’t run and is in bad condition, can I still donate?

Absolutely! We take almost any vehicle from almost any location.

When I donate a vehicle do I get a receipt?

Yes, you will be mailed a receipt for tax deduction purposes about five days after your vehicle donation is picked up.

How do you pick-up my vehicle and who does that?

Your car or other vehicle will be towed from a location of your choice by a professional vehicle transportation company.

How soon will you tow my car after I donate it?

Typically your vehicle will be transported in 1-2 business days, but it can vary depending on the location of your vehicle.

Does my vehicle have to be at my home?

No, we are happy to pick-up your car, truck, or other vehicle from almost any location.

Can you pick up my vehicle when I'm not there?

Absolutely, most of the time you don’t have to be there when your vehicle is picked-up.

What paperwork do I need to donate my vehicle?

Vehicle donation paperwork varies by state. In New York State,

  • All vehicles manufactured after 1/1/1973 including cars, trucks, kit vehicles, RVs, motorcycles and buses require a title
  • ATVs, snowmobiles, trailers with an unladen weight of less than 1000 lbs do not require a title

Can I donate my car if my registration is expired? Yes in most cases you can, but registration requirements vary by state, call 800-269-6814 for specific information on your location.

Can I donate my car if it failed an emissions (smog) test? Yes, we are happy to take vehicles without a current emissions test.

Do I need to have insurance on my car? Once your vehicle is picked up you are no longer liable and can remove insurance coverage.
