WASHINGTON, DC  — On Friday, September 24, 2021, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW) supporters, activists, and champions of reproductive rights from across the metropolitan DC region gathered for its annual Gala both virtually and at The Wharf at the Southwest Waterfront in Washington, DC to celebrate PPMW’s tremendous impact in the community.

The event raised $210,000 in support of PPMW’s programs including our Contraceptive Equity Fund which offers patients financial assistance in choosing their preferred birth control method, ensuring that all patients who seek birth control as part of their family planning options will be well informed and be able to do so.

“2021 saw more attacks on reproductive health care than in any year since Roe v. Wade was handed down in 1973,” said PPMW President and CEO Dr. Laura Meyers. “But over the past year, PPMW kept our doors open and opened them wider by offering medication abortion at-home services, expanded primary care, and launching our ‘Promotoras’ program which trains health educators to bring sexual and reproductive health information and resources into Latinx communities.”

Guests included Gala Peer to Peer Co-Chairs Adrian Gonzales, Majo Sanabria and Eden Shifera; board members; corporate leaders; and dedicated staff. The event was emceed by journalist Alissa Holmes and entertainment host and media personality Kyle L. Jones aka “KyleOnTheMic.”

“The outpouring of love and support from all those who gave to the Gala is truly inspiring,” said Dr.  Meyers. “All these gifts help ensure that PPMW will continue to be a transformational force in our community by providing access to high-quality health care, education programs, and public affairs outreach.”
