Planned Parenthood Statement Regarding Shooting

Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) health center and office were the site of a possible shooting between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016. There are no casualties or injuries as a result of this activity. At this time PPGMR has no reason to believe that our health center, our patients, or our staff were the intended target. The investigation is ongoing and PPGMR is cooperating fully with the Memphis Police Department. PPGMR will provide information as it becomes available.

Today, Planned Parenthood filed a federal lawsuit against the people behind an ongoing, widely discredited video smear campaign – charging that anti-abortion activists engaged in an elaborate, illegal conspiracy in order to block women’s access to safe and legal abortion. The videos, which make false and disproven claims, have been invoked in political attacks on access to reproductive health care in Tennessee and across the country.
