Statement from Jennifer Childs-Roshak, MD, MBA, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts
“After a careful and comprehensive review of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) health centers and the communities they serve, we have decided to reallocate some of our resources and close our Somerville Express Health Center at the end of August and our Milford Health Center at the end of December. To be clear, this was a mission decision, not a budget decision. Specifically, this strategic decision was driven by our mission to provide accessible, high-quality, compassionate health care and education programs.
“PPLM’s extensive review of the health care landscape found that the needs of the Milford and Somerville communities have changed since we first opened these health centers, while other communities show persisting needs for greater family planning services. With that in mind, we decided to close these locations and increase our operations in communities with greater need. As we move forward, we will be doubling the hours of our Fitchburg health center and creating more appointment times at our Boston and Worcester health centers.
“Our patients are our number one priority and the very reason why we’ve made this decision to create a more efficient, sustainable model for the long term. Not only will this strategic shift in resources ensure that we can meet the diverse needs of women, men and young people with high-quality compassionate health care and education programs, it also provides an opportunity for us to explore potential new services and improve patient access. During this transition, we will continue to offer the same scope of high-quality sexual and reproductive health care services and will welcome all current patients to any of our five other health centers.
“Since our founding, PPLM has always been here for women and families in Massachusetts and we will continue to put the needs of our patients first as we strengthen PPLM’s position as the leading sexual and reproductive health care provider in the Massachusetts.”
