Telehealth Extension

Regarding patients receiving testosterone for transgender hormone therapy

The DEA has extended the COVID-19 Telehealth prescribing flexibilities for 6 months until November 11, 2023.

With this news PPLM will continue to make Telehealth available for all GAHT patients through Nov. 11, 2023.

At that time, anyone that has established care with PPLM will be allowed to continue to be seen by Telehealth for an additional year without requiring an in person visit through November 11, 2024.

Join our Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT) Patient Advisory Council

We're looking for any patients who are receiving estrogen or testosterone therapy at Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts to join our quarterly patient advisory council with other trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive patients. We want to hear your feedback to help our program improve and grow!

We meet every 2 to 3 months. For more information, patients can email [email protected].

Participants will be compensated $200 for their time and will have their meal cost covered during the session.

About Our Care:

How do I make an appointment?

To schedule an appointment, you can contact us by phone at 800-258-4448 (press 2 after dialing to schedule or press 3 to speak with a counselor) or through our online patient portal. We currently offer these appointments virtually through telehealth as well as in person at one of our health centers.

What can I expect from my first appointment?

At this appointment, we will discuss your goals for treatment, go through the Informed Consent forms, review your medical history, and answer any questions you have about medication options. Depending on your medical history, we will either prescribe the hormones to you at your first visit or ask you to get some lab work done at a local diagnostic center. Once we receive lab results (usually within a week of your lab work appointment), we will review them and then prescribe hormones for you to pick up at your nearest pharmacy.

If I'm already on hormones, can I transfer my care to PPLM?

Yes, you are able to transfer your hormone care to PPLM. You will still have to make an appointment for an initial Hormone Therapy visit so that we can go through our Informed Consent form with you. Also, please make sure to bring information about your current prescription and dosage to the initial visit.

How much does it cost?

We have billing staff ready to help figure out costs and payments for this service for both insured and uninsured patients. If you would like to learn more about your insurance coverage or self-pay costs prior to your initial visit, you can do so by calling 800-258-4448. You can also visit this page for more information on accepted insurances and payment options.

How old do I have to be to receive hormones from PPLM?

For our gender-affirming hormone services, we see patients 16 and over. For patients who are 16 and 17, we require a parent/guardian consent. If you are under 16, we can refer you to other Massachusetts providers who can give you hormonal care.

What other care apart from Hormone Therapy does PPLM offer to our transgender, nonbinary and gender expansive patients?

We offer additional support for our GAHT patients through referrals to vetted providers across the state, clinical letters and notarization assistance for name and gender marker changes on legal documentation, and any additional case management. Additionally, all services we offer at PPLM are available to patients of all genders. See “For Patients” to learn more about our wide range of services.
