Executive Statement: CEO Karen J. Nelson & Planned Parenthood of Maryland Welcomes Pride 2024

Statement from Karen J. Nelson, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Maryland:  

“At Planned Parenthood of Maryland, Pride Month is our opportunity to uplift our LGBTQ+ patients, staff, and supporters, and to celebrate their resilience in the face of politically motivated attacks on their communities and their health care. Pride is not something we recognize just one month a year. It is something our providers live out through our work all year round by:

  • Offering sensitive preventive care, PEP and PrEP services, and STI testing
  • Providing gender-affirming care and advocating for legal protections for GAC patients
  • Teaching LGBTQ+-inclusive sex education in Maryland high schools
  • Elevating issues faced by our LGBTQIA+ patients through participation in LGBTQ+ coalitions and city commissions.

This June, we rededicate ourselves to providing LGBTQ+ Marylanders with top-quality, inclusive, and affirming sexual and reproductive health education and care–no matter what.
