Executive Statement: CEO Karen J. Nelson on the Second Anniversary of the Dobbs Decision Leak
For Immediate Release: May 2, 2024
Statement from Karen J. Nelson, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Maryland:
"Today marks two years since the leak of the draft Dobbs decision. The leak was an indication of the cascading assaults on reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy to come.
In Maryland, we risk falling into the trap of thinking we’re safe from these bans. But every year, Planned Parenthood of Maryland and our partners work with champions in the Maryland General Assembly to fend off attacks by anti-abortion state legislators, including four anti-abortion bills just this year.
But today is a reminder that our fight for access and health equity in Maryland is not over. All of us must be leaders in destigmatizing sexual and reproductive health care in our communities. And we must register to vote and stay informed on the issues and people who have the power to expand – or curtail – Marylanders’ health care. Today early voting begins. Use this chance to make a difference. And remember in November that Marylanders have the opportunity to protect reproductive rights in perpetuity."
