States Attempt to Erode Reproductive Health Care Access
For Immediate Release: May 17, 2014
Help us protect women's health in New Hampshire! RSVP here to join us at one of our upcoming phone banks on August 3rd and 9th.
Earlier this year, we celebrated when attempts to defund Planned Parenthood were defeated in Congress. This would not have been possible without thousands of you who called, wrote, and rallied in support of family planning!
Unfortunately, the celebration was brief. States around the country are now attempting to pass measures defunding state-based family planning programs and Planned Parenthood health centers. The impact of these proposals is real: in some states women are being turned away as health centers are forced to increase prices, reduce services, and even close their doors.
While it's easy to assume this trend reflects an increased opposition to reproductive health care, the opposite is in fact true. Recent polling shows that a growing number of Americans support a woman's right to choose, as well as continued funding for Planned Parenthood health centers. We know that especially in these tough economic times, people need quality, affordable, reproductive health care. We have an obligation to ensure that all women, in every state, have access to reproductive health care.
In the coming weeks, we will be assisting other states by hosting phone banks here in Los Angeles. I hope you will RSVP to join us as we stand up for women across the country-- together we can send the clear message that no one should play politics with women's health.
Warmly,
Sue Dunlap
