Each year on December 1st we recognize World AIDS Day.

It has been thirty years since the first reported AIDS case, and yet the epidemic continues to impact lives all over the world: over 30 million people are living with HIV today.  About half of all new HIV infections each year occur among young people.  And while the global incidence of HIV is declining, the rate of new infections is still unacceptably high, with 2.7 million people becoming infected annually.

This is why it is so important for us to offer rapid HIV testing in all our health centers, along with information about abstinence, condoms, and other ways to protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.  Giving young people the education tools they need to stay healthy is essential, and here at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles we are proud to reach over 70,000 students and community members each year through our education and outreach programs.

This year, the Peer Advocate high school students are recognizing World AIDS Day and spreading awareness to their peers through short video presentations.  You can view their clips on our Facebook page.
