A valuable opportunity to work toward accessible, quality health care for all

LOS ANGELES – Planned Parenthood is thrilled with President-Elect Obama’s appointment of former Senator Tom Daschle as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Health care is a top priority for the incoming administration and Planned Parenthood sees this as a valuable opportunity to share our ideas on quality women’s health care.

“As an advocate for women’s health and reproductive rights, Daschle is a champion for our issues,” said Mary-Jane Waglé, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. “He understands the need for quality, affordable healthcare – including family planning and sexual health services.”

“Daschle demonstrates a long record of standing up for women’s healthcare and rights, she noted. “We look forward to continue working with him to advocate for health care reform and commonsense policies that improve care for women, men and young people in Los Angeles County and nationwide.”

The newly-formed health care team, lead by Daschle, has already asked Planned Parenthood to participate in the nationwide health care discussions over the next few weeks. This is an important occasion for us to speak on behalf of the men and women we serve and demonstrate our expertise in the area of reproductive health.

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles’ mission is to provide convenient and affordable access to a comprehensive range of quality reproductive health care and sexual health information, through patient services, education and advocacy.
