Judge's decision about PPINK Louisville facility a victory for women in Kentucky
For Immediate Release: July 1, 2016
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky (PPINK) is delighted by the court’s order dismissing the Commonwealth’s lawsuit against PPINK. The decision demonstrates that PPINK has done nothing in violation of Kentucky law.
“The women of Kentucky need and deserve access to quality healthcare - we provide services to the people who need them most. PPINK operated legally under the clear guidance and authorization of the previous administration. We did nothing wrong. We are immensely grateful that now the Bevin administration and the people of the Commonwealth know our truth,” said Betty Cockrum, President and CEO of PPINK.
Gov. Matt Bevin announced in February that the Commonwealth had filed a lawsuit against PPINK, alleging it violated state law by performing abortions without a license at the new health care facility in Louisville. They sought hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and penalties.
PPINK filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in March.
This ruling comes at the culmination of a significant week that began with the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt on June 27 and the preliminary injunction granted by federal court Judge Tanya Walton Pratt against Indiana House Enrolled Act 1337 on June 30.
