Indiana State Department of Health closes investigation into Merrillville, Bloomington and Indianapolis health centers

(Indianapolis) -- Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky (PPINK) announced that on July 28 it received official notice from the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) that its health centers in Merrillville, Bloomington and Indianapolis were found compliant with state abortion clinic licensure regulations in response to Gov. Mike Pence’s call for an investigation.

As the attached letters note, surveyors inspected the three PPINK health centers where surgical abortions are performed on July 21. ISDH found the claims against PPINK to be without cause. No licensure deficiencies were noted as a result of their inspections.

Gov. Mike Pence on July 16 ordered ISDH to investigate Planned Parenthood for possible violations of state laws and regulations after a group released videos making false claims about Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s participation in tissue donation programs.

“We are pleased this unfounded complaint is resolved,” said Betty Cockrum, president and CEO of PPINK. “As we’ve said all along, PPINK doesn’t participate in a tissue donation program. We hold compliance with all laws and regulations as an imperative. We’re not surprised the surveyors found the claims unsubstantiated. Perhaps now Indiana's executive leadership will focus on measures such as teen pregnancy prevention and reducing the cycle of poverty to truly advance the dream of thriving Hoosier families.”
