Planned Parenthood echoes calls for justice
For Immediate Release: July 29, 2017 (Updated: July 31, 2017, 1:17 p.m.)
INDIANAPOLIS – Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky’s (PPINK) President and CEO, Christie Gillespie, released the following statement regarding the death of Indianapolis resident Aaron Bailey:
“Today marks one month since Aaron Bailey’s death, and unfortunately, the systemic violence against Black lives continues. Bailey’s death was tragic and we stand in solidarity in calling for a continued investigation into his death. As a community based provider that serves Black people of all genders – including those who work within this organization – we understand that it is unjust and misaligned with the ideals of our country when people fear they or their loved ones may die at the hands of those entrusted to protect and serve them. We must not ignore that racial justice is integral to achieving reproductive freedom; therefore, supporting the right to raise families in safe and healthy communities and without fear of violence is an important piece of Planned Parenthood’s work.”
