Alaska is a big state in many ways, and very often, the generosity and community spirit of the people of Alaska is greater in scope than the actual size of the state.

From the way the Soldotna community came together to support their health center in the maelstrom of protests, to the inspired and exceptional youth in Anchorage who fly to Juneau (600 miles!) to participate in Teen Lobby Day, I’ve seen first-hand how Alaskans do more for one another as a matter of course.

A great example of how the people of Alaska show up for Planned Parenthood is through Pick.Click.Give.

Pick.Click.Give was started in 2008 to allow Alaskans filing for their Permanent Fund Dividend to donate from it whatever amount they choose to charitable and educational organizations.

We‘re pleased to announce that the total raised in 2019 was $89,924.49. Planned Parenthood was in the top five organizations for both number of supporters and total amount raised through Pick.Click.Give.

As of Feb. 1, 2020, we have already seen pledges from more than 470 donors, equaling over $35,000. This is amazing, and an increase from the number of pledges we’d seen by this time last year. Over the past four years, our Alaska supporters have given over $400,000 to Planned Parenthood through Pick.Click.Give!

“Pick.Click.Give is a great opportunity for Alaskans to support nonprofit organizations that benefit their local communities,” said Rachael McPherson, Major Gift Officer, who lives and works in Anchorage. McPherson, a lifelong resident of Alaska, said she’s excited but not surprised by the jump in donations: “We’re used to adversity, and we’re persistent.”

It’s not too late for more Alaskans to join in and pick Planned Parenthood – the PFD filing period ends on March 31.
