President & CEO Message

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to share some good news: this week, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that a group of anti-abortion physicians does not have standing to challenge the FDA’s actions related to the approval of mifepristone. Mifepristone will remain on the market and accessible in states where abortion is legal, including New York.

While this decision is welcome news, this fight is not over. This case will return to the same district court that tried to end FDA approval of mifepristone. We are also still awaiting another Supreme Court decision on EMTALA, a federal law that ensures people in medical emergencies get the care they need in a hospital emergency room, including abortion care.

These cases are calculated attacks on abortion access to attempt to deny people the freedom to make their own health care decisions. As our Associate Medical Director Dr. Stacy De-Lin said at our Hamptons Benefit earlier this month, at no point in pregnancy is a politician more qualified to make decisions about your health than you and your health care provider. Patients deserve to get the medicine they need, and providers should be able to provide that medicine without unnecessary interference from the courts or politicians.

While we celebrate this win, we continue this fight so everyone can get the care they need. Now is the time to get involved in the fight for reproductive rights. Here at PPHP, we are working every day to increase our capacity and ensure we can provide health care to both New Yorkers and the growing number of patients coming to us from out of state. Read on for ways to get involved in our activist efforts, join us for an event, or make a donation to support our work.

Thank you for your continued support of PPHP. Our movement is stronger with you in it.

In this together,

Vincent Russell
President & CEO

Health Care for LGBTQ+ Communities

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate and uplift LGBTQ+ communities. LGBTQ+ people are important to the PPHP community — they are our patients, staff, and supporters. We know how important it is, for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, to feel safe, supported, and affirmed.

All people should be able to access the sexual and reproductive health care they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. We proudly provide sexual and reproductive health care that is sensitive and inclusive to people who are LGBTQ+, including STI testing, birth control services, prenatal care, abortion care, and more. PPHP also provides supportive, gender-affirming care to folks who need it.

Our gender-affirming care services include:

  • Gender-affirming hormone therapy for individuals aged 17 and older (under 18 requires parent/guardian consent),

  • self-injection training,

  • resources and referrals for primary care, mental health, surgery, dental care, legal services, electrolysis, support groups, and more, and

We follow the Informed Consent model so patients do not need a mental health referral to receive services.

Gender-affirming care is available at all of our health centers, including our mobile health centers, and via telehealth. To book an appointment, visit pphp.org or call 1-800-230-PLAN.

Education: Reaching Diverse Communities

Did you know PPHP’s Education & Training team is 50% bilingual? This means that we can reach the Spanish speaking communities in their language, which is important to building trust and understanding their needs. This month, we supported Riverhead High School’s bilingual needs and provided programming to 12 classes in both English and Spanish.

It’s June, which means Pride is also upon us! Our team has been busy attending events in Westchester, Rockland, Suffolk, and Putnam counties. The only way to achieve equitable communities is to serve everyone and meet them where they are. Pride events are an important way for us to support through outreach and education. Please say hello if you see our table at a Pride event! You can see where we’ll be for the rest of the month here.
