Dear Friends,
Our 2023 Annual Report is coming soon, where you'll find updates from our organization as well as data summarizing our work over the past year.
We are proud to have completed nearly 40,000 health care visits last year for patients seeking our wide range of sexual and reproductive health care services. We also completed over 600 training and outreach programs and engaged with over 19,000 activists. As the reproductive health landscape continues to face attacks, our dedication to serving our community has never been stronger. Our doors stay open.
As the summer comes to an end, now is a great time to recommit to the fight for reproductive freedom. Be sure to check our Activist Calendar for ways to get involved. You can also contact our advocacy team at [email protected] to speak to an organizer in your region about ways to reach your community.
We are grateful for your support of PPHP, which allows us to provide the best care possible to our patients every day. Read on for ways to get involved, join us for an event, or make a donation to support our work. Our movement is stronger with you in it.
In this together,
Vincent Russell

Health Care: HPV Vaccination Awareness
August is National Immunization Awareness Month, which highlights the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. This August, we want to highlight the vaccine available to prevent the spread of the Human Papillomavirus, or HPV.
What is HPV? HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI), and there are more than 100 different types. HPV is so common that nearly all sexually active people will get at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives, but most people who have HPV don't know it.
What are the symptoms of HPV? Although most HPV infections go away within two years, some will not and instead will "hide" in the body for years undetected. Some types produce warts, which can appear on the hands, feet, or genital area. Other types of HPV can cause cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer and certain other genital and throat cancers.
What is the HPV vaccine? The FDA-approved HPV vaccine protects against the types of HPV that cause most HPV cancers. Since HPV vaccination was first recommended in 2006, infections with the types of HPV that cause most cancers and genital warts have dropped 88% among teen girls and 81% among young adult women.
Who should get the HPV vaccine? HPV vaccination provides the most benefit when given before a person is exposed to any HPV. That’s why CDC recommends HPV vaccination at ages 11-12. HPV vaccination is also recommended up to age 26 for everyone, if they did not get vaccinated when they were younger. Some adults ages 27 through 45 may decide to get the HPV vaccine based on discussion with their provider.
If you have questions about HPV, the HPV vaccination, or any of our other health services, we’re here for you. To book an appointment at one of our health centers, visit pphp.org or call 1-800-230-PLAN.
Education: Sex Education for Vulnerable Youth
Through our St. Faith Foundation grant, our team provides comprehensive sexual health programming to youth who live in non-traditional/alternative housing in Westchester County. St. Faith’s programming allows us to provide education and referral services to some of the most vulnerable youth. This summer, we renewed our partnerships with Abbot House Girls Group and Children’s Village and started a new partnership with Youth Shelter of Westchester.
We strive to reach similar populations in Suffolk County, and we recently provided our Sex and Gender training to New Hour’s Emerge Program for people who have recently been incarcerated. Everyone needs sex education; we’re proud to partner with these incredible organizations so we can bring our services to those in our community who are often ignored.
In the last month, we also completed our annual PHASE Summer Camp in Suffolk County with NYCLU. We served a total of 22 students with bilingual programming over two weeks. We look forward to collaborating more with NYCLU this year!

Advocacy & Government Relations: How Will Prop 1/NY ERA Protect Reproductive Health Care?
The Advocacy & Government Relations team is spreading the word about Prop 1, also known as the New York Equal Rights Amendment (NY ERA). This upcoming Election Day, November 5, Prop 1 will be on the back of the ballot for New Yorkers to vote on. This proposal is to amend the New York State Constitution to clarify and strengthen protections for people who experience discrimination.
You may be wondering, what does this mean for reproductive health care?
The NY ERA/Prop 1 could prevent the state government from:
- Implementing a statewide abortion ban
- Stopping the state funding for abortion via Medicaid
- Banning private insurance coverage of abortion
- Prosecuting and criminalizing miscarriage
- Adding medically unnecessary burdens on patients or facilities
With less than three months until Election Day, we need your help to educate voters about Prop 1/NY ERA. Check out all our upcoming events here.
