NYS Department of Health Equips PPHP in Fight Against Transmission of Zika
For Immediate Release: Aug. 30, 2016
Planned Parenthood of Hudson Peconic (PPHP) received 200 Zika virus prevention kits from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) under an initiative designed to protect pregnant patients from exposure to the Zika virus on across New York.
“The health of mothers and their babies is paramount to the mission of our organization. Here at Planned Parenthood we are dedicated to ensuring that all families have the ability to raise their children in a healthy and safe environment and are committed to providing not only excellent care but education to our prenatal patients”, said Ann Marie Bentsi-Addison, PPHP Director, Patient Services.
The prevention kits include EPA-insect repellant, condoms, Mosquito Dunks©(larvicide) and educational materials explaining the risk of travel, ways to avoid mosquito bites, and information on how larvicide can be used to decrease mosquito populations around the home. They are intended to serve as an educational tool that may be used to educate patients and their partners regarding potential exposure to Zika virus and the potential risk of infection for their unborn baby.
“Five of our ten health centers offer prenatal services. All of our prenatal patients will be given specific information about prevention, testing and treatment, as well as travel warnings,” continued Ms. Bentsi-Addison.
