(Hawthorne, NY) – Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) has been awarded a grant in the amount of $8,200 from the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls (LIFWG) to expand their bilingual reproductive health care education classes to underserved Latina Women on Long Island’s East End.

“PPHP is grateful to the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls for the opportunity to expand our programming to Latina women on the East End,” said Reina Schiffrin, President/CEO, PPHP. “We are proud to provide free education classes on sexuality and sexual health to women who may otherwise have little or no access to risk-prevention information and ongoing reproductive health care.”

“We are a Fund for all of Long Island’s women and girls and we are especially pleased to be investing in a program that will provide much-needed health information to Latina immigrant women,” said Laurel Parker West, Executive Director, LIFWG. “We hope that this partnership with Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic will shine a brighter light on the needs of this often invisible population of women in our East End communities.”

The LIFWG grant will be used to provide a series of 12 bilingual reproductive health education classes to underserved Latina women on Long Island’s East End, particularly undocumented immigrant women from South and Central America. The classes will be offered in partnership with the South Fork Community Health Initiative. This new funding will enable PPHP to reach women at greatest risk for unintended pregnancy, negative birth outcomes, and the transmission of HIV/AIDS/sexually transmitted infections (STIs) with culturally-sensitive information that, in their own language, addresses their reproductive health concerns as well as issues surrounding their children’s sexuality and sexual behavior.

The Long Island Fund for Women & Girls is a charitable organization that funds programs that improve the lives of women and girls, highlights and addresses women’s issues, and develops women’s philanthropy.  For information call (516) 396-9860 or visit http://www.lifwg.org/.
