(Hawthorne, NY) – Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) health centers in Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam Counties will offer free HIV testing on Monday, June 27th to encourage men and women who have been sexually active to get tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), in recognition of National HIV Testing Day, June 27.

The test and the office visit are free when visiting any PPHP health center for an HIV test only.

“National HIV Testing Day is a great reminder to get yourself tested for HIV and other STDs,” said Reina Schiffrin, President/CEO, PPHP. “When it comes to your health and the health of your partner, the best ways to protect yourselves are through regular testing and consistent use of condoms.”

Visit www.pphp.org or call 1-800-230-PLAN (7526) to find a health center, and for health center hours. Appointments are not necessary but encouraged.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, of the more than 1 million people in the United States living with HIV/AIDS, an estimated 21% are unaware they are infected. This percentage is even higher among certain populations: more than 50% of HIV-infected adolescents. Early detection of HIV enables people to start treatment sooner, leading to better health outcomes and longer lives.
