Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) recently added gender affirming care to its scope of health care services; this includes gender affirming hormone therapy, self-injection trainings, and sensitive sexual and reproductive health care.

These services follow the informed consent model, which emphasizes and acknowledges a patient’s personal autonomy in choosing health care options without the involvement of a mental health professional.

Additionally, PPHP provides a vetted list of referrals for LGBTQIA-sensitive primary care providers, mental health services, surgeons, dental care providers, support groups, and more.

“At PPHP, we are committed to decreasing barriers to health care for transgender, gender nonconforming, and non-binary patients,” said Vincent Russell, President & CEO, PPHP. “We are excited to have Dr. Meera Shah spearheading these services and bringing her expertise to our patients in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam.”

Meera Shah, MD, MPH, MS, AAHIVS, Associate Medical Director, PPHP, said, “We are dedicated to serving all patients who come to our health centers for care. A year ago, we started providing gender affirming hormone therapy to patients in Suffolk County, an area that had very few options for the gender expansive community. Now we are extending this same commitment to our patients in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam counties. I am also looking forward to strengthening relationships with community partners to best serve our patients.

PPHP’s gender affirming care services are available at its White Plains health center. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please visit www.pphp.org or call (800) 230-PLAN.
