Congressman Tim Bishop’s support of Planned Parenthood during the recent assault on women’s health shows he recognizes the vital role Planned Parenthood plays in the lives of millions of women and families.

Anti-choice Members of Congress tried to both defund Planned Parenthood and eliminate Title X, the nation’s family planning program. Americans spoke out against these outrageous proposals and Congress listened, reaching an agreement that does not include such cuts.

In Suffolk alone, thousands of people would be without basic, preventive health care if Planned Parenthood were cut off from federal funding. Nationally, 1.6 million Title X clients received care in 2010 from a Planned Parenthood center including lifesaving cancer screenings, sexually transmitted infection testing and birth control services.

I am proud Congressman Bishop represents us in Washington and I thank him for being our champion and standing up for women’s health.
